Ride 7 - Gear 1, I neeeed you!!

Ride 7 - 13 April 2019
Distance 18.6 miles (Distance to date 119.5 miles)
Time 2:32 (Time to date 14:00)

It was raining.  But I'm already feeling under pressure to keep getting the miles in, so I would have to brave it regardless (besides, I'm from England so I can tough out some rain.....right?)

So my bike looked like a treat.  No parts missing, nothing damaged, bright green wheels etc.  It was a treat, until I hit a hill and realized I could not select gear 1.  Quite a problem on a bike with three gears!  The original intention was to keep moving east between Bay and Hillside, but as you can see I turned south to avoid the hills.

Points of Interest.....

All the telegraph poles in Fernwood are painted......as you'll see.

Pop Icons (48.427737,-123.346038)

I've still only got 13/15.  Somebody help me!!!!

Need Closure

Random Rocket Ship (48.427718, -123.345404)

So, what do Mother Teresa, David Bowie and Tin Tin have in common??  I don't know.  But there must be a reason they ended up on a rocket ship together

I love the (apparently) random discoveries

Mickey Mouse Bush (48.44798, -123.349227)

There are probably 1,000s of people who pass this everyday and have never spotted this.  But at the right angle, three bushes align to form a Mickey Mouse head!

OK, these points of interest are getting tenuous!

Take a look quick, before Disney find out and start charging royalties!

Ride 45 - No More Waterfront to Ride

Ride 45 - 23 November 2019 Distance 31.3km (Distance to date 1451.5km) Time 2hrs 38mins (Time to date 111hrs 24mins) The end is firmly in sight! My rides tend to be pretty unplanned; I tend to head to an area, circle an area and then colour it in.  This lack of planning has now left me with an east west corridor!  The good news is, this corridor should be pretty simple to complete! Ride 44 to Date Ride 45 means I am now complete east of Shelborne, with downtown being the only sizeable chunk left to go.  I've not saved downtown until last (as many people have assumed), in fact, quite the opposite; I have been putting it off as I'm dreading it! The ride was pleasant, finishing off oak bay.  Sad to finish my last little bit of waterfront, as the waterfront rides are the ones I generally enjoy most. Deer command a lot more respect now they're 'tooled up' The 'Greatest Street Name in Victoria' award goes to............. The end o...

Biggest news in Victoria Right Now!?!?!?

OK, so the biggest news is actually a tragic story which broke all our hearts.  But page A6 of the Times Colonist is a much nicer story to read!!! The online version of the article is here: https://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/meet-the-cyclist-who-rode-every-victoria-street-often-twice-1.24039234

.......and so it begins

Every year I set myself a challenge; these challenges have ranged from giving up meat, to forming a one man band and charity fundraising. This year the challenge is set; to cycle every single street in Victoria, British Columbia ....to add a little twist, I'll do the whole thing on a rental bike. Along the way, I plan to record things of interest I see, people I meet etc and update this blog with progress.  Hopefully at the end I'll have a handy guide of things to see in Victoria BC (on two wheels). Hope you enjoy the journey!
