Ride 13 - Lots of Trees

Ride 13 - 23 May 2019
Distance 15.4.miles (Distance to date 212.1 miles)
Time 1:54 (Time to date 26:05)

Royal Oak, the land of the big trees, big houses and big plots.  Not much traffic in this neighbourhoood made for a pretty enjoyable ride!

No Filter

I've ridden and run around the Royal Oak plenty, but never really taken time to explore.  The neighboorhood had a nice feel, often pristine neighbourhoods can feel sterile and unfriendly, but everyone I saw or spoke to was great.

Royal Oak in a nutshell!

Also this ride had a pretty good area / distance ratio, those rides always feel good!

One dilemma, I encountered a road that wasn't on the map!  My conscience got the better of me and I rode it (even though it was on a hill!).

So new, it's not mapped

Points of Interest.....

Sea View Patio (48.505937, -123.349404)

So at the end of Waters Edge Rd is this patio.  With a stunning view.  It looks like the patio is public as it looks off the neighbouring plot.  Either way the house on the neighbouring plot is under construction, so I imagine this will be fair game for the summer of 2019!!!

What a find!!!

Lohbrunner Park (48.49413, -123.364005)

OK, so there are 100s of parks in Victoria and loads of them worthy of mention.  But this one is a bit different, a small picturesque lake in a very hidden away location.  It won't take long to do a lap, but worthy of a visit.

Ducks obliged for the photo!

Tree Stump Carving (48.4988782,-123.3653278)

I debated whether to put this one in my blog, then remembered that I have one reader, so figured it didn't matter (I'm perserveering so I have a diary for the memories, if you're my one reader and wondering!!).

This native carving is carved into a tree stump.  It beautiful.  It's just in someone's yard, so you may need to trespass a little to get a good view!

Better to ask forgiveness than permission!

Biggest news in Victoria Right Now!?!?!?

OK, so the biggest news is actually a tragic story which broke all our hearts.  But page A6 of the Times Colonist is a much nicer story to read!!! Ride 45 - No More Waterfront to Ride

Ride 45 - 23 November 2019 Distance 31.3km (Distance to date 1451.5km) Time 2hrs 38mins (Time to date 111hrs 24mins) The end is firmly in sight! My rides tend to be pretty unplanned; I tend to head to an area, circle an area and then colour it in.  This lack of planning has now left me with an east west corridor!  The good news is, this corridor should be pretty simple to complete! Ride 44 to Date Ride 45 means I am now complete east of Shelborne, with downtown being the only sizeable chunk left to go.  I've not saved downtown until last (as many people have assumed), in fact, quite the opposite; I have been putting it off as I'm dreading it! The ride was pleasant, finishing off oak bay.  Sad to finish my last little bit of waterfront, as the waterfront rides are the ones I generally enjoy most. Deer command a lot more respect now they're 'tooled up' The 'Greatest Street Name in Victoria' award goes to............. The end o...

Ride 11/12 - Bang Bang

Ride 11/12 - 12-13 May 2019 Distance 24.1 miles (Distance to date 212.1 miles) Time 3:09 (Time to date 24:11) To help me keep on top of things, I've combined these rides.  I got busy, rode three days on the bounce and have been struggling to catch up since (I have a life away from exploring Victoria too!). v Both rides were in the evening and local to my home.  Being out in the evening was a nice change and there were plenty of deer roaming the street at dusk. Green Bike in it's natural habitat More Deer.....said nobody in Gordon Head Points of Interest..... Sea View Bench   (48.494665, -123.328541) Beach access is at a premium in Gordon Head.  I found this little used private bench at the end of a cul de sac.  It's a little overgrown, but if you just want to take in a view in private, this would be a great spot. Warning: You may need to clear some bramble before sitting Vantreight Park   (48.492309, -123.30736) Just a ...
