Ride 40 - 'Summit Park' was never going to end well!

Ride 40 - 27 October 2019
Distance 35.4km (Distance to date 1211.4km)
Time 2hrs 57mins (Time to date 93hrs 17mins)

The green rental bikes of Victoria have a lot of pros, but they also have a lot of cons.......they only have three gears was a pretty pertinent con on this ride!

The clue was in the name, I guess.  Summit Park.  The roads surrounding the park too; The Rise, Summit Avenue, Highview Street!

Obligatory Bike Shot

In reality Summit Park isn't a mountain;  just a mere hillock but heading up and down the inclined roads surrounding is exhausting!

All that work for this stunning view 🤔

The low point of my challenge occurred on Summit Avenue, I failed at a climb.  The road was narrow and steep and I just ran out of legs.  I still rode to the top (so challenge isn't failed or anything), just took a couple of goes and dented my perfect record (and ego!).

You can take Victoria out of the tree, but you can't take the tree out of Victoria

Ride 45 - No More Waterfront to Ride

Ride 45 - 23 November 2019 Distance 31.3km (Distance to date 1451.5km) Time 2hrs 38mins (Time to date 111hrs 24mins) The end is firmly in sight! My rides tend to be pretty unplanned; I tend to head to an area, circle an area and then colour it in.  This lack of planning has now left me with an east west corridor!  The good news is, this corridor should be pretty simple to complete! Ride 44 to Date Ride 45 means I am now complete east of Shelborne, with downtown being the only sizeable chunk left to go.  I've not saved downtown until last (as many people have assumed), in fact, quite the opposite; I have been putting it off as I'm dreading it! The ride was pleasant, finishing off oak bay.  Sad to finish my last little bit of waterfront, as the waterfront rides are the ones I generally enjoy most. Deer command a lot more respect now they're 'tooled up' The 'Greatest Street Name in Victoria' award goes to............. The end o...

Biggest news in Victoria Right Now!?!?!?

OK, so the biggest news is actually a tragic story which broke all our hearts.  But page A6 of the Times Colonist is a much nicer story to read!!! Ride 48 - Final Ride!!

Ride 48 - 15 Dec 2019 Distance 25.1 km (Distance to date 1532.7 km) Time 2hrs 11mins (Time to date 108hrs 12mins) Put a fork in me........I'm DONE!!! Since February 2019, I have dreamed of this ride.  I'd had all sorts of thoughts about how to end and how I'd mark the occasion.  In the end, I planned nothing.  With my wife heavily pregnant, the rides were becoming a burden and adding a celebration just didn't seem fair. In the end, fate gave me an ending; albeit a simple one.  The final metre of my final street was this................... The cycling gods delivered The last ride was a cold one, with the night's frost melting away as the sun hit. On the way there I also achieved a bucket list level accomplishment!!! Being early meant that downtown wasn't busy, great for a cyclist wanting to meander about looking for his last few random finds of this adventure. St Andrew's Presbyterian Church Just a blue cow.  I...
