Ride 41 - Lets Get This Done!

Ride 41 - 1 November 2019
Distance 60.7km (Distance to date 1272.2km)
Time 4hrs 5mins (Time to date 97hrs 22mins)

So, it's November.  I'm not going to lie, I've been starting to panic about getting this challenge finished; so I took action and have commenced a two day extravaganza of exploration!!  Two days to cover every road in the Esquimalt Peninsular 👊!

Richards Island.  I'm a mere apostrophe away from having my own island!

As the map shows, I started this ride from Oak Bay Bikes.  A departure from the normal green bikes, I decided to rent myself a 'proper' as a treat.  My intention when I started this was to get bikes from a variety of places round Victoria, but that never happened, but I am no way tied to green bikes (before you ask)!

I took a days vacation to do this ride as the weather looked passable; turned out it was a peach of a day!

Throughout this challenge I've had great weather on waterfront days, lucky as this ride would have been pretty miserable in the rain or the wind!

A bird, made out of spark plugs!?  Banging.

West Bay Waterfront (48.42619, -123.41937)

This little cove of land was an amazing little discovery.  Each street led down to a waterfront deck, pretty quiet and secluded.  I was tempted to get a G&T and stop!

It's late, that's the best I can do

I don't condone public alcohol consumption

Ride 45 - No More Waterfront to Ride

Ride 45 - 23 November 2019 Distance 31.3km (Distance to date 1451.5km) Time 2hrs 38mins (Time to date 111hrs 24mins) The end is firmly in sight! My rides tend to be pretty unplanned; I tend to head to an area, circle an area and then colour it in.  This lack of planning has now left me with an east west corridor!  The good news is, this corridor should be pretty simple to complete! Ride 44 to Date Ride 45 means I am now complete east of Shelborne, with downtown being the only sizeable chunk left to go.  I've not saved downtown until last (as many people have assumed), in fact, quite the opposite; I have been putting it off as I'm dreading it! The ride was pleasant, finishing off oak bay.  Sad to finish my last little bit of waterfront, as the waterfront rides are the ones I generally enjoy most. Deer command a lot more respect now they're 'tooled up' The 'Greatest Street Name in Victoria' award goes to............. The end o...

Biggest news in Victoria Right Now!?!?!?

OK, so the biggest news is actually a tragic story which broke all our hearts.  But page A6 of the Times Colonist is a much nicer story to read!!! The online version of the article is here: https://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/meet-the-cyclist-who-rode-every-victoria-street-often-twice-1.24039234

.......and so it begins

Every year I set myself a challenge; these challenges have ranged from giving up meat, to forming a one man band and charity fundraising. This year the challenge is set; to cycle every single street in Victoria, British Columbia ....to add a little twist, I'll do the whole thing on a rental bike. Along the way, I plan to record things of interest I see, people I meet etc and update this blog with progress.  Hopefully at the end I'll have a handy guide of things to see in Victoria BC (on two wheels). Hope you enjoy the journey!
